Competing with well over 180 students from all over Europe, GMM student José Alberto Moreno Herrera brought home an international top prize from the 2007 Euroweek competition at Telemark University College in Norway.
Dealing with product added value in connection with ceramics José Alberto Moreno Herrera (GMM) and Yun Li Wang (HAim) worked together with two Latvians and two Portuguese, and the group won prizes for best presentation and best project.
”Euroweek has been a great experience which has given me insight into cultural differences in work mentality and dedication and the value of exact and direct communication, but I have also learned how to optimize teamwork processes and take advantage of one another’s resources and competences”, José Alberto Moreno Herrera says and encourages other students to take part in the Euroweek.
A Euroweek project gives 5 ECTS credits and will typically run from December to April where an international team of six European students work together in terms of problem formulation, collection of data, analyses and presentation.
”Euroweek gives the student practical experience in working interculturally. In addition to the technical problems in the project, there is also much procedural learning in Euroweek. For example, there are linguistic, cultural and interpretative barriers to overcome and the distance between the students can be challenging”, lecturer Claus Jørgensen, AU-IBT, says.
“In this way, Euroweek fits well with AU-IBT’s goals and values, and the projects help the students prepare for the globalised work life waiting for them ahead”, he concludes.
It is the second time that AU-IBT participates in Euroweek, and also the second time that AU-IBT is awarded prizes. Thus, Claus Jørgensen is already looking forward to next year’s Euroweek which takes place from 14 to 20 April in Girona, Spain.
